Question

If f is a function defined by f(x)=⎪ ⎪ ⎪ ⎪ ⎪ ⎪⎪ ⎪ ⎪ ⎪ ⎪ ⎪x1x1ifx>153xif2x1,6x10ifx<2 then discuss the continuity of f.

Solution

For the continuity of f at x=1
RHL=limx1x1x1
Using L's Hospital rule, we get
limx12x=2
LHL=limx153x=2
Hence, continuous at x=1
For continuity at x=2
RHL=limx253x=11
LHL=limx26x10=12
As LHLRHL it is not continuous at x=2
