Question

If f(x)=(1+x)(1+x2)(1+x4)(1+x8)... then f(12)=?

Open in App
Solution

The answer is =2
The series is
f(x)=Πk=0(1+x2k)
Let's start with 2 terms
(1+x)(1+x2)=1+x+x2+x3
And with 3 terms
(1+x)(1+x2)(1+x4)=1+x+x2+x3+x4+x5+x6+x7
Therefore,
f(x)=Πk=0(1+x2k)=1+x+x2+x3+x4+x5+x6+............x
This is a geometric series.
And
f(x)=11x if |x|<1
therefore,
f(12)=1112=2
