The energy of an electron in nth orbit =En=13.6z2n2 ev/atom
n=1, ground state energy E(1)=B.6z2ev(1)
n=2, energy of 1st exicated state E(2)=13.64z2ev(2)
the first exicitation is given by
E(2)E(1)=13.6z2(14+1)=13.6z2(3/4)=24ev (given)
Then, z2=(24)(4/3)13.6=13213.6
bind energy =13.6(3213.6)=32ev
Binding energy in 3rd exicitated state is 32ev.
