If half a metre of cloth costs ₹ 15. Find the cost of $\frac{81}{3}$ metres of the same cloth.

Cost of $\frac{1}{2}$ m cloth = ₹ 15

As the length of cloth increases, cost also increases.

So, the quantities are in direct proportion.

$\frac{x_1}{y_1}$= $\frac{x_2}{y_2}$
$x_1$= $\frac{1}{2}$ ; $y_1$ = 15 ; $x_2$ = $\frac{25}{3}$ ; $y_2$ = x

$\frac{\frac{1}{2}}{15}$ = $\frac{\frac{25}{3}}{x}$

x = $\frac{25x15x2}{3}$= 250

Hence, cost of $8\frac{1}{3}$ m cloth = ₹ 250
