Question

If I give you 5 chocolates and ask you to equally divide it between 2 people, each getting a full chocolate and not half of it. Can you do this?
Try it. If you had 6 chocolates then it could have been distributed equally.

Why not with 5? What is the special quality about this number 5? If you consider any other case with this number you will find that in any case, you can just do two things either give 5 children 1 chocolate each or all 5 to one child for equal distribution but for any other case it cannot be distributed equally. Why?

A
This happens because 5 is a prime number.

Solution

The correct option is A This happens because 5 is a prime number.
The number 5 is a prime number, it has only two factors that is 1 and the number itself, 5. For a quantity having a prime number count(expect the prime number 2) we cannot distribute it between two people, or we can say that it can be distributed equally only in the case that 1 person gets all the things, or the each person gets one thing and the number of persons will be the count of the prime number. All prime numbers are odd expect 2, as the number 2 is the only even prime number. All odd numbers are not prime numbers. Let us take an example and understand this:
The number 21 is an odd number, but it is not a prime number. The factors of the number are:

21 = 1 × 21, 3 × 7 as we can see that we have 4 factors here, 1,3,7,21(the distribution can be done in 4 ways). So if I have 21 chocolates I can give 7 children 3 chocolates each or 3 children 7 chocolates each, in either case the distribution is equal. But this is not the case with the number 5 as it has only two factors 1, 5 so the distribution is done in 2 ways only. Therefore, 5 is a prime number and 21 is a composite number.
