Question

If I had walked 1km/h faster, I would've taken 10 minutes less to walk 2km. Find the rate of my walking.

Open in App
Solution

Distance travelled = 2 km
Let the original speed be x km/hr
Time taken =distancespeed
T1=2x(i)
Now, speed increased by 1 km/hr
Now time taken (T2)=2x+1(ii)
T1T2=10 min=1060 min
=16 hr
So, 16=2x2x+1
112=1x1x+1
112=x+1xx(x+1)
x(x+1)=12
x2+x12=0
x2+4x3x12=0
x(x+4)3(x+4)=0
x=4, x=3
Speed can't be negative
So speed = 3 km/hr.
