Amniocentesis is a process of extracting the amniotic fluid and examining for the presence of any kind of genetic disorder. Knowing about it can help a couple decide on they child to be born. However, in many place, this method is misused to determine the sex of the unborn foetus and there is a tendency to abort the female foetus. This leads to rise in female foeticide which in turn affects the sex ration of a population. To put a stop to this malpractice of female foeticide, there is a statutory ban on amniocentesis.
