Solution

The correct option is A 100
αdecay is represented by,

ZXA Z2YA4+α+Q

Where, A is the mass number of the parent nucleus.

We know that,

Q=K.EY+K.Eα

K.EY=QK.Eα

K.EY=5 MeV4.8 MeV

K.EY=0.2 MeV

By conservation of momentum,

K.EYK.Eα=mαmY

We know that, the mass of the nucleus is proportional to the mass number.

K.EYK.Eα=4A4

0.24.8=4A4

0.2A0.8=19.2

A=100

Hence, option (A) is correct.

Key concept:

By conservation of momentum,

0=PY+Pα

|PY|=|Pα|

We know that,

K.E=P22m

K.EYK.Eα=mαmY

If A is the mass number of parent nuclei, then
KE=Q[A4A]
