From letters A to I, we have their numerical position as single digit only from 1 - 9 respectively. Now, when we move the next letter J, its position is 10 so, both the digits of 2-digit number is added to obtain the code for letter J which 1 + 0 = 1.
So, J is coded as 1. Similarly, K has position 11. So, code for K = 1 + 1 = 2.
In the same manner coding is done till alphabet Z.
Now, position of L is 12 and that of R is 18.
