Solution

The correct option is B

1%

Step 1: Given data

Given,

length of the resistance wire is increased by 0.5%

Let the initial length be l and final length be l'

l'=l+0.5l100l'=1.005l

The volume of the wire remains constant.

Let V be the volume of the wire, A be the initial area and A' be the final area

V=lAandV=l'A'lA=l'A'lA=1.005lA'A=1.005A'A'=A1.005

Step 2: Formula and calculation

We know, the resistance of a wire is given by, R=ρlA

Where ρ is the resistivity, l is length and A is area of cross-section of the wire.

New resistance will be

R'=ρl'A'R'=ρ×1.005lA1.005R'=1.0052×ρlAR'=1.010025RR'1.01R

Therefore, change in resistance,

R=R'-RR=1.01R-RR=0.01R

Percentage change=R'-RR×100=RR×100=0.01×100=1%

Therefore percentage change is 1%

Hence, option B is the correct answer.
