Question
If magnetic quantum number of a given atom is represented by -3 then what will be its principal quantum number?
Open in App
Solution
Dear Student,
Principal Quantum number = n
Azumithal quantum number = l = 0 to n-1
Magnetic quantum number = (2l+1)
Given: l = - 3
-3 = 2l+1
-4 = 2l
l = -2
l = n-1
-2 = n-1
n = 1
