The posterior region of the body is called abdomen. Abdomen of an adult cockroach consists of 10 segments (male as well as female) while an embryo has 11 segments. The 10th segment in both sexes bears a pair of small, filamentous and sensory anal cerci. In male cockroaches, in addition to anal cerci, the 9th segment bears a pair of short, unjoined thread like anal styles which are absent in females.
