If matrix A=[2222] and A2=pA, then write the value of p.

If A=(2222) then A2 can be computed as shown below:

A2=(2222)(2222)=(2×2+2×22×2+(2)×22×2+2×22×2+2×2)

implies A2=(8888)

Since A2=pA, therefore,

(8888)=p(2222)

(8888)=(2p2p2p2p)

Now equating the matrices we get 2p=8p=4.

Hence, p=4.
