If no diagonal are 44. Then the number of sides in the polygon is

Open in App
Solution

Note : Polygon with n sides has n(n-3)/2 diagonals.

Polygon with 44 diagonals:
44 = n(n-3)/2
Solving for n,
n^2 - 3n - 88 = 0
On factorising,
(n-11)(n+8) = 0

(n+8) = 0
n = -8
A polygon cannot have negative number of sides. So, this is not possible.

(n-11) = 0
n = 11
So, a polyfon with 11 sides has 44 daigonals.
