Question

If O is origin OP=3 with direction ratios proportional to 1,2,2 then what are the coordinates of P?

Open in App
Solution

Let the coordinates of point P be (x1,y1,z1)

Given,

OP=3

(x10)2+(y10)2+(z10)2=9

x21+y21+z21=9 ----- (1)

Direction ratio of OP are 1,2,2

Therefore,
x10=1

x1=1

y10=2

y1=2

z10=2

z1=2

Putting the values of x1,y1,z1 in (1) we get,

(1)2+(2)2+(2)2=0

9=9

x1,y1,z1 satisfies (1)

Hence, coordinates of point P is (1,2,2)
