If onions don't change their odour in an acidic medium, why are we suggested to rub lemon against our hands to remove the smell of onions?

Solution

Dear student

Onions act as olfactory indicators as they donot change their odour in acidic medium.
When we rub our hands against lemon, the smell of onion does not vanish. The strong aroma of lemon just makes the smell of onions little lighter. It does not get removed totally.
