Solution
A large number of power plants and industries are set up around the area where the Taj Mahal is located. Air in Agra contains high levels of sulfur and nitrogen oxide leading to acid rain. Acid rain reacted with the marble (calcium carbonate) of Taj Mahal and caused damage to it.
Hence these power plants and industries should be either be shifted to other places or techniques should be implanted which reduce the release of air pollutants in the air.
