Question

If ¯¯¯a=(1,1,1);¯¯c=(0,1,1) are two given vectors, find ¯¯b such that ¯¯¯aׯ¯b=¯¯c and ¯¯¯a.¯¯b=3

Open in App
Solution

Let b=x^i+y^j+z^k=(x,y,z)

Given that

a.b=3

(1,1,1,).(x,y,z)=3

x+y+z=3 ...(1)

Given that

a×b=c

(1,1,1,)×(x,y,z)=(0,1,1)

(zy,xz,yx)=(0,1,1)

y=z

yx=1x=y+1

Substitute these values in (1), we get

1+y+y+y=3

y=23

z=23;x=53
