$p = - 2$
$- 2 p^{3} - 3 p^{2} + 4 p + 7 = - 2 {(- 2)}^{3} - 3 {(- 2)}^{2} + 4 (- 2) + 7$
$= - 2 (- 8) - 3 (4) + 4 (- 2) + 7$
$= 16 - 12 - 8 + 7$
$= 4 - 1 = 3$
