Solution

LetP(9a-2,-b) divides AB internally in the ratio 3:1.
By section formula,
9a2=3(8a)+1(3a+1)3+1 and b=3(5)+1(3)3+1
[ By internal section formula, the coordinates of point P divides the ling segment joining the point (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) in the ratio m1:m2 internally is
(m2x1+m1x2m1+m2,m2y1+m1y2m1+m2)]9a2=24a+3a+14 and b=15349a2=27a+14 and b=12436a8=27a+1 and b=336a27a81=09a9=0a=1Hence, the required values of a and b are 1 and -3.
