Mid point of x1, y1 and x2, y2 is x1+x22, y1+y22.

P(a/3,4) is the mid point of the line segment joining the points Q(–6, 5) and R(–2, 3).

Therefore, using mid point formula the coordinates of P are:
a3, 4=-6-22, 5+32a3, 4=-82, 82a3, 4=-4, 4a3=-4a=-12

Hence, the value of 'a' is –12.
