Given: AB = 7 cm
P is the midpoint of AB.

Since P is in between A and B, we have,
AP + PB = AB
⇒ AP + AP = 7 cm (∵ P is the midpoint of AB)
⇒ 2 AP = 7 cm
⇒ AP = 3.5 cm
