The correct option is C $- 3$
$p (y) = (y + 2) (y - 2)$
Putting the value of
$y = 1$
$p (y) = (1 + 2) (1 - 2) = 3 \times - 1 = - 3$

$Alternate:$
$p (y) = (y + 2) (y - 2) = y^{2} - 4$ [using $(a - b) (a + b) = a^{2} - b^{2}$ )
$p (1) = 1^{2} - 4 = - 3$
