Question

If point P(0,1) on the curve y=x+esinx is at the shortest distance from y=mx+c. Then the value of m2 is

Open in App
Solution

For shortest distance, slope of tangent on the curve will be equal to the slope of line.
Now, first curve : y=x+esinx
Differentiating both sides w.r.t. x,
y=1+esinxcosx
At point (0,1),y=2
(dydx)c1=(dydx)c2
2=m
m2=4
