If respond to stimulus is defining feture of life,then a non living stone should not respond by heating,breaking,etc when stimulus of heating,breaking,etc

Response given by the living organisms is different from the effect shown by temperature on rock.Living organisms reaspond by showing an appropriate action.Where as in rocks temperature brings just the cahnge in the state of the matter.What happens in rocks is change in the state of matter.particles are just moving apart or coming closer based on temperature....Right?
Living organisms not only respond to stimuli ,they have many other charecters(metabolism,growth,reproduction ) which are not present in the nonliving organism.All these charecters put together makes the living organisms special.
