Solution

The correct option is A 2
Given, roots of the equation x2+x+1=0 are a and b.

Sum of roots, a+b=CoefficientofxCoefficientofx2=1

and product of roots, ab=ConstanttermCoefficientofx2=1 ....(i)

Again, roots of the equation x2+px+q=0=ab and ba.

Sum of roots, ab+ba=p

and product of roots, abba=q

1=q ...(i)

Now, ab+ba=p

a2+b2ab=p

(a+b)22abab=p [from equation (i)]

(1)22(1)1=p

121=p

p=1

p+q=1+1=2.
