An inherit characteristic of solids is that they have very less inter-molecular spaces, their molecules are tightly packed together giving it a fixed rigid shape. Their molecules do not have enough kinetic energy and for this reason, solids are not able to diffuse into one another since diffusion occurs only if molecules are free to move and not tightly packed such as in the case of most fluids and gases.
