Question

If the activation energy of a reaction is 480.9 kJ mol1, calculate the fraction of molecules at 400oC which have enough energy to react to form the products.

Open in App
Solution

Fraction of molecules which have enough energy to react to form the products is given by
Fraction= eEA/RT (1)
Given, EA= 480.9KJ/mol
R=8.314J/mol
T=400°C=(273+400)K+673K
Putting the value in (1) we get,
Fraction of molecule required =e480.9×1038.314×673=e85.95=4.75×1038
