Area covered by each small square = 1 sq. unit

In the yellow region:
Number of full squares = 3; Area = 3 × 1 = 3 sq. unit
Number of more than half squares = 3; Area = 3 × 1 = 3 sq. unit
Number of less than half squares = 3; Area = 3 × 0 = 0 sq. unit

Total area covered by yellow region = 3 + 3 + 0
= 6 sq. units
