Question

If the base sequence of one DNA template strand is CAACATGTAGCAAGT, what would be the base sequence in the RNA transcribed against it?

Solution

The strand of DNA that is copied into mRNA and subsequently translated and has the complementary sequence to the mRNA is called the template strand. During transcription, RNA polymerase binds to the template strand and synthesises the RNA. Due to the complementarity rule, RNA sequence synthesis is complementary to the template strand. However, in RNA uracil is present in place of thymine.
