Question

If the boiling point of an aqueous solution is 100.1oC. What is its freezing point? Given latent heat of fusion and vaporisation of water are 80cal g1 and 540cal g1 respectively

Open in App
Solution

Given ,

latent heat of fusion = 80 cal /g
latent heat of vaporisation = 540 cal /g

kb=RT21000lv

putting values we get ,

kb=0.513

ΔTb=0.1 and kb=0.513

ΔTb=kb×m

0.1 = 0.513 m m=0.10.513

ΔTf=kfm

1.86×0.10.513=0.3625

ΔTf=T0Ts

0.3625=0Ts

freezing point is 0.3620C
