Solution

The correct option is D decrease by 89%
Step 1: Gravitational force of attraction :

Initial gravitational force between sun and earth, F=GMsMer2 ....(1)
where, r is the distance between sun and earth.

When distance is increased to r=3r, then force become F

F=GMsMer2=GMsMe9r2 ....(2)

Step 2: Percentage decrease in force:
From equation (1) and (2)
FF=19

Percentage decrease in force= FFF×100% =(119)×100%=89×100%=88.88%89%

Hence, Option(D) is correct.
