Question

If the edge of a cube is tripled,find the ratio of the surface areas and that of a volumes of the two cubes.

Open in App
Solution

let the edge of the cube 1 be x

so surface area cube 1 = 6*x*x

and volume will be x*x*x
given the edge of the new cube is 3x

so the surface area of the new cube is 6*3x*3x

volume =3x*3x*3x

ratio of surface area = (6*x*x)/(6*3x*3x) = 1/9 , so ratio = 1:9

ratio of volume = (x*x*x)/(3x*3x*3x) = 1/27 , so ratio = 1:27
