Question

If the electric potential of the inner metal shell is 10V and that of outer shell is 5V the potential at the centre will be= ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Suppose the radius of inner shell=r
Radius of outer shell=R
Charge on the inner shell=q
Charge on the outer shell=q'

For the inner shell,
=> V = kqr+kq'R

For any point where x<r,
=> V = kqr+kq'R (Same as for inner shell)

Thus,
Potential at centre of shell=Potential of inner shell=10V
