Let the auxiliary equation of ax2+2hxy+by2=0 is bm2+2hm+a=0

It is given that one of the line bisects the angle between the co-ordinate axes.

So the line makes an angle 45° or 135° with the positive direction of x-axis.

m=tan45°=1

or m=tan135°=-1

Therefore m=±1 are the roots of the auxiliary equation bm2+2hm+a=0

b±12+2h±1+a=0b+a=±2hb+a2=4h2

Hence, Option (D) is correct i.e. (a+b)2=4h2
