Question
If the exterior angles of a triangle are (2x + 10)°, (3x − 5)° and (2x + 40)°, then x =
(a) 25
(b) 35
(c) 45
(d) 55

Solution
Sum of the exterior angles of a triangle is 360°
∴(2x + 10)°+ (3x − 5)° + (2x + 40)° = 360°
⇒ 2x + 10 + 3x − 5 + 2x + 40 = 360
⇒ 7x + 45 = 360
⇒ 7x = 315
⇒ x = 45
Hence, the correct answer is option (c)
