Question

If the interest on 2,400 be more than the interest on 2,000 by 60 in 3 years at the same rate per cent; find the rate.

Open in App
Solution

Calculate interest for the principal of Rs.2400

Let the rate of interest be R

Given:

Principal (p)=Rs.2400

Time (T)=3 years

Using the simple interest formula we get,

Simple interest (SI)=2400×R×3100

=24×R×3

Simple interest (SI)=72 R

Calculate interest for the principal of Rs.2000

We have:

Principal (P)=Rs.2000

Time (T)=3 years

Using the simple interest formula we get,

Simple interest (SI)=P×R×T100

=2000×R×3100

=20×R×3

Simple interest (SI)=60 R

Calculate rate of interest

According to the question,

72 R60 R=60

12 R=60

R=6012=5%

Hence, the required rate of interest is 5%.
