Question

If the ionisation energy of a compound is 320kJ/mol then what is the electron affinity of the same compound?

Solution

Ionisation energies are always concerned with the formation of positive ions. Electron affinities are the negative ion equivalent. So if the to remove a electron the compound needs 320kJ/mol of energy, then when the same compound recieves a electron or accepts a electron it would need the same amount of energy.
