If the line y=2x+k touches the circle x2+y2=16, then find the value of k

The given circle is x2+y2=16 ..........(1)

Its centre is C(0,0) and its radius is 4

The given line is 2xy+k=0 ..........(2)

The line (2) will touch the circle (1) if the perpendicular distance from C(0,0) to the line (2)=radius of circle.

2×00+k(2)2+12=4

|k|3=4

k=±43
