Question

If the mass of an object is 2 kg, its weight on Earth will be ________

Open in App
Solution

  1. Weight is dependent upon the mass of the object and acceleration due to gravity.
  2. The mass of an object (m) is a constant value. So we consider kg as the unit of weight.
  3. Acceleration due to gravity (g) differs for different planets. However, it remains the same on earth and its value is taken as 9.8 m/s2.
  4. Hence, an object of mass 1 kg has a weight of 9.8 kg or approximately 10 kg everywhere on earth.
  5. It also means that a mass of 2 kg experiences a force of 20 kg on Earth.
