Solution

The correct option is C

0.49

Explanation for correct answer:

Option (C) correct answer:

Step 1 Given data:

The mass of the earth(Me) is 80 times that of a planet(Mp).

That is, Me=80Mp

The diameter of the earth is double that of a planet, so radius of the earth(Re) is also double that of the radius of a planet(Rp).

That is, Re=2Rp

The acceleration due to gravity value on earth is, g=9.8ms-2

Step 2 Formula used:

The acceleration due to gravity is, g=GMR2

Where,

G is the gravitational constant

M is the Mass

R is the radius

Step 3 Value of 'g' on that planet:

Let the acceleration due to gravity of planet is ge=GMeRe2....(1)

Let the acceleration due to gravity of planet is gp=GMpRp2....(2)

Divide equation (2) by equation (1),

gpge=GMpRp2GMeRe2gpge=GMpRp2×Re2GMegpge=Mp×Re2Rp2×Me.....(5)

It is given that,

Me=80Mp.....(3)

Re=2Rp....(4)

Substitute these equation (3) and (4) in equation (5),

gpge=Mp×2Rp2Rp2×80Mpgpge=Mp×4Rp2Rp2×80Mpgpge=480.....(6)

It is given that ge=9.8ms-2

Substituting this in equation (6),

gp9.8=480gp=480×9.8gp=0.49ms-2

Therefore, the value of 'g' on that planet is 0.49ms-2
