If the mixed numbers can be cancelled .... Do we have to cancel them ?

Open in App
Solution

Procedure to make a fractional number to mixed number
Make 7/3 a mixed number

Divide the numerator by denominator and write the quotient next to the fraction with the remainder in the numerator and the original denominator to get the mixed fraction. When 7 is divided by 3, the quotient is 2 and the remainder is 1.
The mixed fraction representation of 7/3 is 2 1/3

But we can't cancel them if we divide it by a same number
(7/3)×3=7
But using the same procedure if we3 from numerator and denominator of 2 1/3 ×3
We get it as 2
But it is not correct
So we can't cancel mixed numbers
