Question

If the moon attracts the Earth, why does the earth not move towards the moon.

Open in App
Solution

Moon and earth attract each other with the same force. But since the mass of earth is 100 times the mass of moon so the acceleration of the earth would be 100 times lesser than that of moon which is approximately negligible. So, the movement of earth towards moon is negligible or we can say earth doesn’t move towards the moon.
