If the moon did not exist, would the earth still have ocean tides? If so, how often.

Solution

  1. The concept of tides is that it occurs due to the gravitational pull from the moon as well as from the sun.
  2. So if the moon never existed, the earth would still have ocean tides.
  3. They wouldn't be strong and the ocean tides would be significantly reduced.
  4. There would still be tides because the gravitational force of the Sun also attracts the Earth’s seawater, although its attraction is less than that of the Moon.
