Let the fraction be xy (.i.e., x be the numerator and y be the denominator of the fraction).
Then, by question, we have x2y2=12 and x+2y+1=1.
On rearrangement, we have 2xy=2 ...(1)
xy=1 ...(2)
Solving by the method of substitution,
(2)x=y1
Substituting this value of x in (1) and solving for y, 2(y1)y=2y=4
x=y1=41=3
Thus, the fraction is 34.
x+y=3+4=7
