If the numerator of a fraction is increased by 400% and denominator is increased by 300% then the resultant fraction is 20/17. What was the original fraction?

Let numerator be x and denominator be y

Numerator increased by 400% would mean x +4x= 5x .

Denomenator increased by 300% would mean y+3y= 4y .

So 5x/4y = 20/17

x/y = 16/17 =>

So your answer comes out to be 16/17

You can cross check by adding 400% of your numerator to 16

And adding 300% of denomenator to 17

Solving it gives you 20/17 .
