Perimeter = 14 x Side of each square

So, 14 $\times$ Side of a square = 14 cm
14 $\times$ 1 = 14
So, Side of each square = 1 cm
$\therefore$ Area of one square = 1 sq. cm

Number of squares in the figure = 12
$\therefore$ The area of the figure = 12 x 1
= 12 sq. cm
