$∵$ Points (a, 2) lies on the line $2 x - 3 y + 8 = 0$

$∴$ It will satisfy the equation.

Now substituting the value of x = a, y = 2 in the equation

$2 a - 3 \times 2 + 8 = 0 \Rightarrow 2 a - 6 + 8 = 0 \Rightarrow 2 a + 2 = 0 \Rightarrow 2 a = - 2 \Rightarrow a = \frac{- 2}{2} = - 1 ∴ a = - 1$
