Since the given points are collinear, they do not form a triangle, which means area of the triangle is Zero.
Hence, substituting the points (x1,y1)=(a,0) ; (x2,y2)=(0,b) and (x3,y3)=(1,1) in the area formula, we get
a(b1)+0(10)+1(0b)2=0
abab=0
a+b=ab

Dividing by ab, we get
1a+1b=1
