General equation for the population growth rate.
dN/dT = rN
In this equation, dN/dT is the growth rate of the population in a given instant, N is population size, T is time, and r is the per capita rate of increase –that is, how quickly the population. grows per individual already in the population.

dN = 240 – 200 = 40
dt = 2005 –2001 = 4
So dN/dt = 40/4 = 10
rN = 10 = dN/dt
N = 200
So r = 10/200 = 0.05 individuals per rat per year
